War Machine

War Machine

War Machine

Double A Side 7”
As with "Rock and Roll Hell, ”War Machine” was originally penned for Kiss when Bryan was just 21. The song's signature riff was developed from a bass riff played to Adams by Gene Simmons, “The title came to me quickly, being the other song we’d written was about hell, War was the obvious theme to coincide with it”.

Bryan aimed to create something monumental for the War Machine video, and he had been collaborating with CGI director Ben Ib on a peace-themed video entitled “What If There Were No Sides At All.” To contrast the peace message of that video, I proposed to Ben that we develop the “War Machine” video showcasing chaos and destruction. This time, however, the tyrant leading the war would ultimately face consequences for his actions.

Rock and Roll Hell

Rock and Roll Hell

Rock and Roll Hell

Double A Side 7”
Here are two songs I co-wrote when I was a 22 year old struggling songwriter.

I got a call out of the blue from producer Michael James Jackson to see if I would like to write for Kiss, which I was thrilled to do, and these are a couple of the songs that were the result, written with both Gene Simmons and Jim Vallance.

While sitting with the band, Gene played me this fantastic bass riff, which ended up being the backbone of “War Machine”.
I was trying to think of a theme that could possibly match the riff and came up with the title. Seeing as the other song we’d written was about hell, War was the obvious theme to coincide with it.

Rock and Roll Hell was actually Jim’s song that had been released a few years earlier with BTO, and I suggested, that we re-write it for Kiss.
It’s incredible to think these themes are unfortunately still playing out for real in the world today, but I’m very grateful to the Kiss guys for giving me the chance back then.

Bryan.

It includes Adams' classic hits such as "When You Love Someone", "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman", "Here I Am" and more to complete the classic collection.

In an interview with Cleveland.com, he stated, "I was in the process of re-negotiating with Universal and they wouldn't give anything back. I said, 'OK, if you don't want to give them back, I'll make new ones.' It was incredibly fun. The vinyl version of this album has Classic 1 and Classic 2 on one album

Adams credits Taylor Swift for the inspiration, saying, "She and I have been in a similar situation lately with our master recordings, so I've done what she has done and re-recorded my early songs again. So thanks Taylor!” In a conversation with The Daily Telegraph, Adams expressed regret for not doing this sooner: "I feel like a complete numpty for taking so long. I wish I'd done it 10 years ago."

So Happy It Hurts

So Happy It Hurts

So Happy It Hurts

2022
So Happy It Hurts, released on March 11 2022, captures a celebration of life and a sense of freedom, reflecting Adams’ experiences during the pandemic. The title track, which captures the essence of that freedom and joy, received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance. Industry plaudits aside, the track has also become a huge fan favourite.

Among the twelve tracks, "On the Road" stands out as it was specifically written as part of the concept for the famous Pirelli calendar which Adams was commissioned to photograph. Another highlight on the album, which is a poignant reflection of Adams' songwriting journey, is "These Are the Moments That Make Up My Life". The song, originally intended for the 2008 film Marley & Me, was revisited and completed for this album. It serves as a heartfelt tribute to the simple moments that define life, encapsulating the reality of songwriters who often share their truths through their songwriting. Other notable tracks include “Kick Ass” (featuring actor John Cleese from Monty Python), "Never Gonna Rain" and "Always Have, Always Will” all of which showcase Adams' signature sound, while introducing fresh elements, such as country and reggae vibes.

Plus the album rocks!

Pretty Woman – The Musical

2022
"Pretty Woman - The Musical" was released on March 4, 2022, just a week before his studio album "So Happy It Hurts". This album features songs written by Adams and Jim Vallance for the musical adaptation of the iconic 1990 film "Pretty Woman".

Unlike the 2018 cast recording of the same name, this album exclusively showcases Adams performing the songs as he originally wrote them. It offers listeners a unique perspective on the musical's soundtrack, presenting Adams' interpretations of the tracks he composed for the stage production.

Adams reflected on the songwriting process for the musical in an interview with Dutch newspaper Metro, saying: "Writing that musical was a masterclass in songwriting. It was also a masterclass in not losing your mind as there was so much rewriting and rejection during the process of the production. That doesn't mean that the rejected songs haven't found a home, because songs like 'I've Been Looking for You,' 'Please Stay,' and 'I Could Get Used to This' have found a home on my different albums…that's just the way the Broadway ball bounces."

Tracks of My Years

Tracks of My Years

Tracks of My Years

2014
Tracks of My Years” is Adams’ 12th album. Originally released in 2014, featuring a photo of 15 year old Adams on the cover, taken in his North Vancouver School. The album is comprised of 10 covers of classic songs from various genres, including "Lay Lady Lay" (Bob Dylan), "I Can't Stop Loving You" (Ray Charles), and "Any Time at All" (The Beatles). The album also includes an original song written by Adams and Jim Vallance entitled "She Knows Me”, which was released as the album's only single.

The track listing showcases a variety of songs, from pop, country, and R&B, highlighting his early influences.

The album was produced by David Foster and Adams. Adams said “Making the selection of the songs for the album took a long time. We recorded all kinds of songs until the songs sort of presented themselves, or sounded different enough from the originals. We did about three months of recording, spread out over the course of two years." He was "reluctant" to record a covers album, but his label Polydor and manager wanted him to do it. "I got into it in the end. And David is a brilliant producer — nothing against him. It just wasn’t something I really wanted to do." Adams simultaneously worked with producer Jeff Lynne on his thirteenth studio album. Adams said of the process: "I would literally leave one studio where I was recording the covers with David Foster, and go to another studio where I was working on the new album with Jeff. That gave me the impetus to get through the Foster record, because I didn’t enjoy that at all."

The album debuted at number one on the Canadian Albums Chart.
